The Vecht

One of the most beautiful rivers in Holland, the 'Vecht', offers you a very good picture of what life was like for the fortunate ones of those that lived in the 18th and 19th century. To get away from work and the busy town (how relative seems 'busy' then, to 'busy' now…) they bought land alongside the river, had beautiful, spacious homes built, to be used for weekend outings and summer holidays. Especially the southern part of the river offers breath taking views on these 'datsjas'. The nature surrounding the river is typical for peat-soil. In the summer you will see young storks high up in their nests and now and then we will have to wait to pass one of the many drawbridges… after all the bridge-master also must have his tea.
